Stealing Beauty

Since rediscovering How to Steal a Million this weekend, I've found myself in awe of Audrey's look. Her bold eyeliner and coral-colored pout exude a playful elegance that's as relevant now as it was in 1966.

Keys to achieving this look—

Semi-Matte Base
Create a radiant, semi-matte finish to the skin by applying Armani Designer Compact Foundation SPF 22 over an illuminating primer, such as Yves Saint Laurent Top Secrets. Then, using a fine-point brush, cover any remaining imperfections with an opaque concealer, like Cle de Peau.

Peachy Glow
Applied together, Givenchy Prismissime in Maharani Apricots adds a perfect balance of color and shimmer to the cheeks. Each of the powders can also be used on their own to highlight the eye and brow area as well.

Dramatic Eyes
For Audrey's look-at-me liner, I prefer to use a rich pencil, like Kanebo Eyeliner in El01, as it's easier to control than a liquid-based liner. False lashes are also a must (Shu Uemura's Smoky Layers are fantastic), as is a volumizing mascara, such as Fresh Firebird in Black. Your choice of shadow should be matte, and in shades of taupe, nude, and beige (depending on your skin tone and coloring).

Apricot-Coral Kisser
With so many options available, it all comes down to the finish you're most comfortable with. For a pinch of color, try CoverGirl Outlast Lip Stain in Coy Coral. To achieve a retro, muted lip use NARS Lipstick in Barberella, or Lancome Le Rouge Absolu in Peche, for a silkier finish. For a glossy lip, you can't beat YSL Gloss Pur in Pure Coral. And if a sheer, barely-there tint is what you crave, try MAC Slimshine in Missy.

Sherbet Nails
To complete this look, use a complimentary shade of nail lacquer, like Chanel Le Vernis in Orange Fizz (a creamy coral) or Dior Vernis in Sweet Orange (a shimmering, peach-pink). If you're one to restrict bright colors to your toes, pair either of these polishes with Essie Power Lunch (a sheer, pearly peach).

Black(ed) Out

I don't know if I'm loving the song, but Kylie's eyes are fierce in this video. I'm all about that glossy, dark finish.

To get this look, try lining your eyes with a smudge-able liner (like Clinique Quickliner in Really Black), then apply an intense, dark shadow like M.A.C Carbon. Finish with a glossy topcoat (I adore M.A.C Clear Gloss).

Blood Orange Crush

Carolinahererrasp08 I'm all about a beautiful blood orange lip and/or cheek for Spring. I find it really refreshing, especially when done in a glossy, bright finish.

Get this look: Matte
Lightly line the lips in an orange-based red lip liner (like M.A.C Redd ) then smudge in towards the mouth and fill with a bright, bold shade such as Heat Wave by NARS.

Get this look: Glossy
I adore Pout Plump in Pimento (if you can still find it) and NARS Lip Gloss in Babe for an effortless fix.

Get this look: Customized
If you want the full effect, try a layered look. I like to use M.A.C Lipmix in Orange (without liner), then coat the bright orange base with a sheer red gloss, such as Tulip Venom Gloss by DuWop or Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect in Red Stockings.

Get the look: Rouge
A blood orange flush is gorgeous, but I'd keep the lips light if you're opting to highlight your cheeks. For this look, try mixing two parts Lancome Magique Blush in Peach Melba and one part Color Fever Lipstick in Red and Sensual Java (a tip taken from the great Gucci Westman), then apply lightly to the apples of your cheeks.

To dress your kisser, lightly dab the same poppy-red lipstick in the center of your lips, then apply a sheer orange/coral lip color on top (I love Glosspitality Lipgelee by M.A.C, Sari by Fresh, and Lancome Juicy Tubes Jelly in Sweet Punch).

It's such a fresh, vibrant look for the coming season. Now, all we need is a little sunshine and we're set...

Ruby Red Lips

CharlizeIf you desire a look that's guaranteed to garner attention and allows your inner starlet to shine, look no further. Ruby red lips are a captivating statement of eternal elegance, adding an instant level of confidence and allure to any woman who models them.

To keep things current, opt for a fresh face and minimalistic eye makeup to compliment your bold choice of lip color.

Get the Look:

To ensure your skin looks radiant and not excessively matte, apply a lightweight foundation, like Stila's Illuminating Liquid Foundation, with a foundation brush and mask dark circles/spots with an illuminating concealer. Next, lightly dust your t-zone with a loose powder (I love Lancome's Color ID Portable Powder as it's fuss-free and easy to use) to keep excess shine at bay whilst still allowing your skin to glow. I'd also keep a few blotting papers in your purse to touch up every few hours if you find your skin becomes a bit too shiny.

Now that you've created a flawless canvas, add a hint of color by using a neutral cream blush that subtly highlights the contour of your cheeks. Apply the blush sparingly just under your cheekbones and blend lightly with your fingertips or using an angled sponge.  You can also finish with a pearlized illuminator, adding it under your eye sockets towards the apples of your cheeks, above your brow bone, and anywhere else that catches light for a more luminescent complexion.

Next, you can either leave your brows bare or lightly fill them in for a more dramatic look. If you're filling them in, it's generally best to choose a shade of powder/pencil that matches your brow if you have darker hair and a shade darker than your own if you have fair eyebrows.

Now, to dress the eyes. To keep this look youthful and fresh, opt for a light, shimmery nude or champagne eyeshadow which will draw attention to your eyes without competing with your bold lip color. Apply the shadow over your eyelid and blend towards the brow bone. Next, apply the shadow ever-so-lightly, with an angled brush (whether it's cream or powder), under the lower lash line to add a bit of sparkle to the eye. Finally, curl your lashes, to open your eyes, and apply two coats of rich black mascara, like DiorShow Black Out Mascara by Dior, on your top lashes and one coat on the bottom set.  When applying mascara to your top lashes, brush on the second coat of mascara before the first has dried to avoid clumping and flaking (one of my most treasured discoveries).

To complete this look, you'll need to master the seemingly tricky application of bold color to the lips. There are many tips and techniques for painting a perfect pout in a rich shade like red, but I've found that focus and attention to detail are the two main points to remember. If you're not used to working with bold colors, try lining your lips in a lip liner that best matches your natural lip color first to avoid (difficult to erase) red lip liner stains. Once you've perfected the shape of your line, go over the line with a lip liner that matches your ruby lipstick and lightly fill in the edges of your lips (towards the center) so there's no longer a distinct line around your  mouth. Now simply apply your chosen shade of red (I love Chanel's Rouge Hydrabase or Rouge Allure), and blot your lips on a tissue or piece of paper to remove excess lipstick. As a finishing touch, blend a little dab of clear lip balm or gloss in the center of the lips to add a subtle shine and give them a fuller appearance.

Tickled Pink

Sjp A little color on the cheeks, a subtle glisten to the lips, and a radiant complexion are universally flattering and will have the world thinking you've just stepped out from the flat of a naughty summer fling.

Get the Look:

The foundation to this youthful look is your skin. Opt for a luminescent tinted moisturizer with SPF (go on, use your fingers) instead of a foundation to add a glow and camouflage imperfections. Once that's been applied, use a illuminating concealer, like YSL's Touche Eclat, to brighten the under eye area, conceal blemishes and highlight the cheekbones. If you're feeling a bit shiny, just dust a little loose powder over your t-zone for a more matte look.

Next give your brows a brush (and apply a clear brow gel if needed) and lightly fill with a brow powder/cream that is slightly lighter than your brow color.

For the eyes, use a simple nude shimmer shadow such as Nars Duo Cream Eyeshadow sparingly on both on the eye lid under the lower lash line. Then curl the lashes and apply a lengthening, thickening mascara (try Imju Fiberwig Mascara, a best seller in Japan) to both the top and bottom lashes.

Next, apply a cream or gel blush (I love Tarte's Cheek Stain) that most resembles your natural flush with your fingers or with an angled sponge.  If you're feeling experimental, you can try the clear gels that claim to create a natural blush in your cheeks like Smashbox's O-GLOW.

Finally, apply a clear or subtly pink lip balm that adds a hint of shine and finishes the look. If you feel your lips need a boost, try a lip plumper instead of a basic lip shine to enhance your pout.

Smoky Eyes, Nude Lip

022705_05_ha_1 From the runway to the red carpet there has been a nod to the classic smoky eye, nude lip combination which can be taken from day to night throughout the year. To modernize this look, I recommend using a palette of rich chocolate hues for the eyes instead of the standard grey.

Get the Look:

Luminescent skin is a key to achieving this sultry look. Use a tinted moisturizer such as Prada Beauty Hydrating Gel Tint SPF 15 over the entire face and then use a lightweight, concealing illuminator like YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch to hide under eye circles and to highlight your cheekbones. Instead of a standard pink or coral blush, try using a caramel tone cream blush such as Stila's Convertible Color in Camellia.

For your eyes, you'll need a rich, dark cocoa eye liner (try Revlon's ColorStay Eyeliner in Black Brown), both a shimmery dark brown and nude/champagne shadow (a favorite is Serge Lutens' signature 'Eye Shadow Palette' which contains both), a burnished gold or silver eye pencil to highlight the eyes (try Jemma Kidd's Shimmer Stick), and of course a killer mascara.

Apply the nude shadow from your lash line to your brow bone then smudge the liner at the lash line, concentrating more on the outside of the eye and fading out toward the center of the eye (this will give you the look of fuller lashes and will add depth to the brown shadow). You can also line the lower lash line but if you don't line your eyes regularly, it is safer to use an angle brush and brush on the liner under the eye for a softer look that is easier to control.

Next, brush the brown shimmery shadow across the entire eye, staying under the brow bone, as you can see on Kirstin above. Now you can either use the metallic pencil or use the nude shimmery shadow sparingly on the inside 'V' of the eye (blending out towards the center on both upper and lower lash line), which will highlight and brighten the eye area.

Finally, curl your lashes and apply a thickening, lengthening mascara to complete the eyes. Dior Show is a favorite in either Black or Brown, and between us- this mascara is highly addictive.

The final step is of course dressing the lips. As there are so many ethnicities and skin tones, it is difficult to recommend the perfect shade but one gloss I've found to be universally flattering is Pout's Gorgeous Girl Lipslick. Check in with your favorite cosmetics counter and try a few of the most appealing nude lip liners, lipsticks or glosses to find your signature shade.
