From the runway to the red carpet there has been a nod to the classic smoky eye, nude lip combination which can be taken from day to night throughout the year. To modernize this look, I recommend using a palette of rich chocolate hues for the eyes instead of the standard grey.
Get the Look:
Luminescent skin is a key to achieving this sultry look. Use a tinted moisturizer such as Prada Beauty Hydrating Gel Tint SPF 15 over the entire face and then use a lightweight, concealing illuminator like YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch to hide under eye circles and to highlight your cheekbones. Instead of a standard pink or coral blush, try using a caramel tone cream blush such as Stila's Convertible Color in Camellia.
For your eyes, you'll need a rich, dark cocoa eye liner (try Revlon's ColorStay Eyeliner in Black Brown), both a shimmery dark brown and nude/champagne shadow (a favorite is Serge Lutens' signature 'Eye Shadow Palette' which contains both), a burnished gold or silver eye pencil to highlight the eyes (try Jemma Kidd's Shimmer Stick), and of course a killer mascara.
Apply the nude shadow from your lash line to your brow bone then smudge the liner at the lash line, concentrating more on the outside of the eye and fading out toward the center of the eye (this will give you the look of fuller lashes and will add depth to the brown shadow). You can also line the lower lash line but if you don't line your eyes regularly, it is safer to use an angle brush and brush on the liner under the eye for a softer look that is easier to control.
Next, brush the brown shimmery shadow across the entire eye, staying under the brow bone, as you can see on Kirstin above. Now you can either use the metallic pencil or use the nude shimmery shadow sparingly on the inside 'V' of the eye (blending out towards the center on both upper and lower lash line), which will highlight and brighten the eye area.
Finally, curl your lashes and apply a thickening, lengthening mascara to complete the eyes. Dior Show is a favorite in either Black or Brown, and between us- this mascara is highly addictive.
The final step is of course dressing the lips. As there are so many ethnicities and skin tones, it is difficult to recommend the perfect shade but one gloss I've found to be universally flattering is Pout's Gorgeous Girl Lipslick.
